Building Executive Function in Students

Dr Judy Willis is one of the most lucid and informative writers and speakers I’ve come across in recent months regarding current brain science and its application to the learning process. Whilst much of her work that I’ve come across to date has been with ASCD, i came across this great article for Edutopia. In it she sets out very clearly some useful classroom strategies that teachers can apply to help to build children’s executive function:

These aspects of having students increase their awareness of ‘thinking about thinking’ have been very much part of recent deliberations in the school and will form part of future training and strategies for TSRS teachers.
